* Code review for improved-hashing patch. Fix some portability issuesTom Lane2002-03-09
| | | | | (char != unsigned char, Datum != uint32); make use of new hash code in dynahash hash tables and hash joins.

* Add casts to suppress compiler warnings observed on Darwin platformTom Lane2001-11-08
| | | | (surprised no one has reported these yet...)
* pgindent run on all C files. Java run to follow. initdb/regressionBruce Momjian2001-10-25
| | | | tests pass.
* Rearrange fmgr.c and relcache so that it's possible to keep FmgrInfoTom Lane2001-10-06
| | | | | | | | | lookup info in the relcache for index access method support functions. This makes a huge difference for dynamically loaded support functions, and should save a few cycles even for built-in ones. Also tweak dfmgr.c so that load_external_function is called only once, not twice, when doing fmgr_info for a dynamically loaded function. All per performance gripe from Teodor Sigaev, 5-Oct-01.
* Implement precision support for timestamp and time, both with and withoutThomas G. Lockhart2001-10-03
| | | | | | | | | | | | time zones. SQL99 spec requires a default of zero (round to seconds) which is set in gram.y as typmod is set in the parse tree. We *could* change to a default of either 6 (for internal compatibility with previous versions) or 2 (for external compatibility with previous versions). Evaluate entries in pg_proc wrt the iscachable attribute for timestamp and other date/time types. Try to recognize cases where side effects like the current time zone setting may have an effect on results to decide whether something is cachable or not.
* Implement following item in TODO:Tatsuo Ishii2001-09-11
| | | | * Reject character sequences those are not valid in their charset
* TODO item:Tatsuo Ishii2001-07-15
| | | | * Make n of CHAR(n)/VARCHAR(n) the number of letters, not bytes
* Allow GRANT/REVOKE to/from more than one user per invocation. Command tagPeter Eisentraut2001-06-09
| | | | | | | | for GRANT/REVOKE is now just that, not "CHANGE". On the way, migrate some of the aclitem internal representation away from the parser and build a real parse tree instead. Also add some 'const' qualifiers.
* New improved version of bpcharin() may have got the truncation caseTom Lane2001-06-01
| | | | | | | | | right, but it failed to get the padding case right. This was obscured by subsequent application of bpchar() in all but one regression test case, and that one didn't fail in an obvious way --- trailing blanks are hard to see. Add another test case to make it more obvious if it breaks again.
* Make char(n) and varchar(n) types raise an error if the inserted string isPeter Eisentraut2001-05-21
| | | | | too long. While I was adjusting the regression tests I moved the array things all into array.sql, to make things more manageable.
* Ensure that btree sort ordering functions and boolean comparison operatorsTom Lane2001-05-03
| | | | | | | | | | give consistent results for all datatypes. Types float4, float8, and numeric were broken for NaN values; abstime, timestamp, and interval were broken for INVALID values; timetz was just plain broken (some possible pairs of values were neither < nor = nor >). Also clean up text, bpchar, varchar, and bit/varbit to eliminate duplicate code and thereby reduce the probability of similar inconsistencies arising in the future.

* Restructure the key include files per recent pghackers discussion: thereTom Lane2001-02-10
| | | | | | | | | | | are now separate files "postgres.h" and "postgres_fe.h", which are meant to be the primary include files for backend .c files and frontend .c files respectively. By default, only include files meant for frontend use are installed into the installation include directory. There is a new make target 'make install-all-headers' that adds the whole content of the src/include tree to the installed fileset, for use by people who want to develop server-side code without keeping the complete source tree on hand. Cleaned up a whole lot of crufty and inconsistent header inclusions.

* bpchar, varchar, bytea, numeric are toastable --- if you initdb, whichTom Lane2000-07-29
| | | | | | I did not force. I marked numeric as compressable-but-not-move-off-able, partly to test that storage mode and partly because I've got doubts that numerics are large enough to need external storage.
* Fix misuse of StrNCpy to copy and add null to non-null-terminated data.Tom Lane2000-07-07
| | | | | | | Does not work since it fetches one byte beyond the source data, and when the phase of the moon is wrong, the source data is smack up against the end of backend memory and you get SIGSEGV. Don't laugh, this is a fix for an actual user bug report.

* Latest round of fmgr updates. All functions with bool,char, or int2Tom Lane2000-06-05

* Remove unnecessary limitations on lengths of bpchar and varchar constants.Tom Lane2000-03-13
| | | | | | Since we detect oversize tuples elsewhere, I see no reason not to allow string constants that are 'too long' --- after all, they might never get stored in a tuple at all.

* here are some patches for 6.5.0 which I already submitted but have neverBruce Momjian1999-05-03
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | been applied. The patches are in the .tar.gz attachment at the end: varchar-array.patch this patch adds support for arrays of bpchar() and varchar(), which where always missing from postgres. These datatypes can be used to replace the _char4, _char8, etc., which were dropped some time ago. block-size.patch this patch fixes many errors in the parser and other program which happen with very large query statements (> 8K) when using a page size larger than 8192. This patch is needed if you want to submit queries larger than 8K. Postgres supports tuples up to 32K but you can't insert them because you can't submit queries larger than 8K. My patch fixes this problem. The patch also replaces all the occurrences of `8192' and `1<<13' in the sources with the proper constants defined in include files. You should now never find 8192 hardwired in C code, just to make code clearer. -- Massimo Dal Zotto

* Here are the patches against the current source tree. I have run theBruce Momjian1998-10-06
| | | | | | | | | | | | | | regression test on a FreeBSD box with both non-MULTIBYTE and MULTIBYTE-enabled, and confirmed that the results are same. However I do not tested on PCs(I don't have access to win). Please let me know if the patches break anything on PCs. Also please note that the patch for varchar.c is a fix for a nasty bug of char(n) types that I introduced and I believe at least this should be applied. Tatsuo Ishii
